Hodnett Instrument(s):  Tuba & String Bass
Hometown:  East Amhurst, New York
Member since:  1979

Craig "Hurricane" Hodnett, String Bass & Tuba, Buffalo, New York, joined the NRB in 1979, and performed on the 3rd NRB recording "Beginnings." Before the NRB, he had traversed the United States with brother Nick and the Celebration Road Show and then settled in Saginaw for a few years before packing his bags again and more "road" work.  Returning to Buffalo in 1985, he settled back into being one of the busier bassists. Deciding to finally slow down, he currently performs with the American Legion Band of the Tonawandas' Post 264 (national and international award winning ensemble with Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House concerts), Cheektowaga Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Swing Big Band (appearing in the movie "The Natural" with Robert Redford), Morgan Street Stompers and the Storyville Rhythm Kings (both Dixieland bands), PCM Trio (club jazz), T-NT Brass and Great Lakes Brass (quintets), Das Rosengartners (German cabaret and folk music), and a host of other groups throughout western New York and southern Canada.

When not tooting a bass horn or plucking a bass from his diverse collection of basses, he is working with the little ones in grades K - 8 teaching classroom/instrumental music.  Occasionally he works with high school and community groups developing their marching presentation, as well as functioning as a NY-Penn Parade judge during the summer

Of all his experiences, he enjoys returning to the NRB when opportunities allow. "You can't beat fun for a good time, and the NRB is such fun." - Hurricane
