Our decades of playing the happiest music on earth include one priceless benefit only enjoyed by the folks on stage. As you’re watching us, we’re observing you and feeling terrific when our music grabs you. Often, we recognize familiar fans, folks who travel to enjoy our music and laugh over and over at our corny jokes, and the banter among ourselves and with the audience.
Mary Ann Gilsdorf and her spouse were two of those special NRB friends. Mary Ann had a smile that lit up a room. And we sincerely appreciated her laughing at our ‘groaners.” Frank passed away in 2009 but we continued to relish seeing Mary Ann often. According to her obituary, all the members of the New Reformation Dixieland Jazz Band and Wally’s Warehouse Waifs were like a second family to Mary Ann and Frank. The obit also said she spent many years in quiet service to others. We are not surprised. The world was a better place with her in it. We were a better band with her in the audience.
